A Letter To My Younger Self

Dear Riley,

You probably won’t believe me when I say this, but I’m you, writing this letter… in the future. I just wanted to inform you about our life up until this point. You’re probably a little nervous or you think that someone is trying to playing a joke on you… I am not. I am you, just older and smarter. I am 14, and although I don’t know everything about life, I have learned so much about it. I know at this point you are probably taking this seriously or overthinking it, I wanted to tell you to just breathe. Live life and stop stressing over the little things. Be yourself and love who you are no matter what. You don’t have to do things just to please others. There are going to be tough times where you don’t know what to do or you feel overwhelmed by your emotions. Don’t give up. Be vulnerable with the right people. Being vulnerable can be a good thing if you are vulnerable with people that you trust. Open up to people more often. You don’t have to lie to people and say that you are fine or hide your emotions. Talk more. Often people are going through the same thing as you and will be understanding about your emotions. Show that you actually care about people that you love, they need reassurance… just like you. Focus on your grades and stop spending your money on things that you don’t really need. Don’t be so sensitive, IT GETS YOU HURT! Be honest with yourself and others. Riley you are important and you should appreciate yourself the way you do others.

                                                   Sincerely,

                                                                 A better you
